03-Nov-2023 (In Consumer Court Law)
In my apartment of total 13th floor, while going up in the lift there was a power failure and i stuck for approx 30mins. The lift didnt go to the next floor and open neither there was light, fan nor the emergency button was working. Fortunately i had phone where i could manage to alert people thru group chats and was rescued after 30 minutes. can i file a consumer complaint asking fro compensation from the Elevator Company.

Dear,

Yes. You can file a consumer complaint against the elevator company seeking compensation in consumer court. You can also make the builder of the apartment another party to the case. Apart from the consumer complaint, you can also file a police complaint against the officials of the elevator company as well as the builder and the police will register FIR under Sections 287 (negligent conduct with respect to machinery) and 337 (causing hurt by act of endangering life or personal safety of others). If the police don't entertain your complaint, file a private complaint in the jurisdictional magistrate court.
