31-Jul-2023 (In Civil Law)
Greetings. I wish to discontinue my engineering course as I have an opportunity to join a course of my preference but I'm unable to do so because my college has withheld my educational certificates and are demanding the full course durations fee. I'm just in the first year. Which means 6lakhs more for me to pay. I need some advice on what to do for the same. Thank you

Its nothing wrong to discontinue the course. You are always free to study as per your wish and choice. Its not need or compulsory to pay the entire collage fees. But sadly these are the illegal practices of educational institutions. I advice you to first send notice if they do not provide then, file a Writ Petition and get yours Marks Sheet & Transfer Certificate. I have read many judgements of Kerala, Karnataka High Court imposing fine to such mal practices of educational institutions.

Dear Student, They cannot demand such amount and you will get remedy if you approach high court. The management is entitled for the loss which it actually incurred but cannot insist the students to pay entire course fee or retain originals.

Hi, to safeguard the students intetests , UGC has come up with new rules to put an end to coercive and profiteering practices by educational institutes regarding verification of certificates during admission, remittance of fees and refunds. Hence you may please take help of an advocate to send a legal notice for returning of your documents and issue TC without any demand for payment of future terms payment which is unlawful. You can also approach the UGC on this matter. Let me know for any help.
