Period within which HC can give stay on trial court's order

What is the period for which HC may give a stay order on trial court's decision ? Is the complainant due to receive a copy ? It there any free legal advice cell at Kolkata ?
High court may stay the trial court order as per the merit of the case and no one can predicate the period , it is totally depend upon the judge who will hear the application .
