Name change on Degree Certificate

27-Jan-2026 (In Civil Law)
I have already got name change published on Gazette. But university is asking for Court Decree and also change name on 10th and 12th markscard and all 8 semester marks card. What is the court procedure to get Decree, duration it takes and Costs involved. I applied for Masters program in January and got selected. Admission is in April month when I have to submit my Degree certificate.

You have to file a declaration suit in order to change your name in marksheet and other documents as per your requirement, the decree and judgment to change your name as per the declaration suit filed.

Dear Sir/Madam, although Gazette notification is completed, some Universities require a Civil Court Decree and prior correction of name in SSLC, PUC and all semester marks cards before updating the degree records; since your Master’s admission in April is time-sensitive, kindly contact me with details of the issuing Boards/University, nature of name change and whether any correction applications are already filed, so that the matter can be discussed further. — Advocate Girish Nyayadevatha Law Chambers

Hi you have to file a civil suit and get an order from the district Court regarding name change and then submit the order in the board office and get the name changed in all your marks cards and this will take atleast 2 months if you start the process immediately.
