According to the Indian Forest Act, each state has laid down its own rules and regulations against felling of trees. The answer is 'yes', because, according to this Act, the penalty for cutting down a tree is Rs. 10,000 or 3 months imprisonment.

no it's not legal if you are the owner of that tree or if it comes under your ownership then without your permission no has the right to cut the tree off trrees can only be cut if it causes threat to life or property it can be done by getting permission from district forest department
