Harassment money lenders with dire consequences

13-Nov-2023 (In Civil Law)
I had taken a loan of Rs. 50000/- 18 months back at a monthly interest of 10% (Rs.5000/-). All these months I have been paying the interest on time without fail. I am a freelancer by profession. The interest amount was due on November 12, 2019. I missed the deadline this month. I told them that I will pay it before the end of the month, but they are not agreeing. The lenders came to my house this morning and threatened me with dire consequences. They are licensed money lenders. At the time of taking t he loan, I had given them a blank signed cheque, my electricity bill and my Aadhar card copy. What can I do to stop this harassment. I am willing to pay them, I just need sometime. But they are not listening. What can I do? Please help!

Hi you can approach police if they are harrasing you and using abusive language and also you can make an application with their office stating that you are willing to pay the debts all you want is some time and mention your issues you are facing at moment.

Well, in case, if they choose a legal option to file a Cheque Bouncing Case against you, which they will rarely do, then you can by the time-frame by replying to the Legal-Demand Notice for recovery of money, they owe it from you, notice will be sent to you before filing of Cheque-Bouncing Case in Court.

Other option which they can try to recover money from you is by sending goons again to forcibly recover money from you, in that case, as they are licenced money-lenders, they can't take recourse of such illegal option as it against the RBI Guidelines & in such case, Police is duty-bound to register FIR against such Money-Lenders & as such, can arrest such Money-lenders & put them behind the bars.
