Fraud obc certificate for college but general category student in upsc

My friend is Karan. He doesn't belongs to OBC but through an agent he got OBC-NCL certificate. His name now shows in revenue department obc list also but surely he is not obc. He graduated from college using obc certificate. But now he want to appear in upsc through general category just to avoid problems in future. So will he face any problems if he clears upsc as general category candidate?

Clearing UPSC through the general category won’t erase the earlier fraud. If he genuinely wants to serve in civil services, coming clean early and legally is the best way. Otherwise, the risk of being caught—sooner or later—is real.

Going from a lower category to an upper category is legally allowed and in such case he will not face any problem because he is not availing any benefit. The legal problem arises only if you have taken any undue benefit for something
