In government service, marital status is not a disqualification unless the service rules specifically require disclosure or restrict second marriage. If at the time of applying/verification you were legally married and later divorced in 2021, the correct marital status should be updated in service records. Suppressing or giving false information in official forms may amount to misconduct if it is a material fact under the applicable service rules. If a complaint is filed, the department may seek an explanation and conduct a departmental inquiry. Consequences depend on whether there was intentional misrepresentation and whether the rules mandated disclosure. If there was no rule violation and no benefit taken by suppression, generally no severe action is taken. It is advisable to voluntarily update records with divorce decree and seek regularisation to avoid future issues.

This is not a small issue and should not be taken lightly. Since you were married in 2013, cleared the 69,000 teacher recruitment, joined in November 2020, and got divorce in 2021, the problem is non-disclosure / incorrect disclosure of marital status in a government service. If someone files a complaint, what can happen? It depends on what exactly you declared at the time of application and joining. But please understand the risks: • Departmental inquiry can be initiated • You may be accused of suppression of material facts • Charges of misrepresentation / misconduct can be framed • In serious cases, it can lead to termination of service • Your past service benefits can also come under scrutiny Many candidates assume marital status is “personal” — it is not in government service. Any false or incomplete declaration becomes a service rule violation. Important point most people miss: Even if the divorce happened later (2021), hiding marriage status earlier can still be questioned, especially if: • Complaint comes from an ex-spouse • Someone submits documents (marriage certificate, court records) • Vigilance or DIOS inquiry starts Once a complaint is registered, the department must act, even if it is old. The good news (but only if handled correctly): Such matters can be defended, regularised, or neutralised, but only if: • The service records are checked properly • Your application forms are reviewed line-by-line • A preventive explanation / correction strategy is prepared • You act before a formal inquiry starts One wrong reply or late action can permanently damage your job. This is not a matter to discuss casually or rely on assumptions. Before anyone files a complaint, you should secure yourself legally. I strongly advise a confidential consultancy so I can: • Examine your service records • Assess real risk • Tell you exactly what can happen • Prepare a safe legal strategy in advance Do not wait for a complaint to come. Based on the facts stated by you, mere non-disclosure of marriage or divorce status does not automatically amount to an offence unless there was a specific requirement to disclose the same at the time of application or joining. If the recruitment rules, application form, or service rules specifically asked about marital status and you intentionally gave false information, then the department may initiate departmental inquiry or disciplinary action for suppression of facts. However, if marital status was not a material condition for eligibility or appointment, then generally no criminal case is made out. At most, it may be treated as a service matter, not a civil or criminal offence. Each case depends on service rules and terms of appointment.
