A contract can be oral but in case of any dispute burden of proof lies very heavily on the plaintiff to prove any such oral contract. Its very difficult to prove an implied contract. The Plaintiff must have necessary circumstantial proofs, communication, incidents occured as has been claimed to prove the same which is very difficult. It is always advisable to enter into an express contract i.e. it has to be written, agreed by the parties and signed and executed in the presence of witnesses etc.

contracts as per law can be oral and written. the degree of proof is way higher in the oral contract as you need some witness and a credible storyline and events to support your story. be specific and not vague in your pleadings

Oral contract can be made under Indian Contract Act. However, it is always better to have written contract to avoid any inconvenience. Further oral contracts are difficult to prove in the court of law.
