Change in Child's birth certificate

10-Dec-2025 (In Civil Law)
My child Aayush was born on 11 July 2023. In the birth certificate, my wife’s (child's mother) name has been wrongly entered as “Mayuri Piyush Yawalkar.” Her correct legal name is “Mayuri Kishor Atre.” This mistake happened during hospital registration. My name Piyush Anil Yawalkar The municipal corporation is refusing to correct it, saying only minor spelling changes are allowed. Can the Registrar legally correct this type of error (wrong parent name)

No, they will not correct it. you will have to show how the error happened. in case her unmarried name was mentioned You will have to get a court order directing the Registrar to change the name. for further clarifications, you may contact me

Hello, You should make a written application to the concerned head of department If they do not rectify this error then to the commissioner of municipal corporation If that also does not work then in my opinion appropriate writ should be filed before HC For additional information/guidance feel free to contact me.

Yes, under Section 15 of the Registration of Births and Deaths Act, 1969, the Registrar can correct errors in substance, including a wrong parent’s name, on proof. Refusal can be challenged in High Court.
