Can I file a case against someone who violates my right to privacy?

A lady read my text messages without my permission. She also took screenshots of that message and sent it to others. Because of it i had to face emotional stress. Can i file case against her ? If yes, under which law does this case come ? What are my chances to win the case ? And what kind of punishment can she get and for how long ? Please tell me.

Yes you can file a case against her. Right to privacy has been recognised as fundamental right by the Hon'ble Supreme Court. It comes under Information and Technology Act, 2000. If your case is genuine and you have sufficient evidence then you can win. You can get compensation in lieu of damages done to you.

Before lodging a case you should send a legal notice to her for harassment and demand an apology for her behavior if she fails to do the same you can lodge a complaint against her and sue her in a competent court

You can file a criminal defamation case against that person under Indian Penal Code for which maximun punishment is 2 years. Whether you will succeed in trial or not that depends on the evidence produced during trial.
You can also file civil defemation case.
