Wrongly dishonoring the instrument by BOI

I had sufficient balance in my account, however, the bank dishonored the instrument, thereafter, there is a big hue and cry amongst themselves for blame fixation on each other departments. How do I claim for compensation on the defamation for this wrongful deed of theirs, since, I am being continuously threatened by the payee for the dishonor. The cheque value was INR 5 lacs.
