Want a Guidance for Section 138

The customer had given an undated cheque of Rs 20,000 against the service in the month of August. After a few days he paid Rs 5,000 through upi and the remaining Rs 15,000 has not been paid yet. Can I deposit the cheque of Rs 20,000 three times in the bank? And can I take legal action under section 138?
Yes you can deposit the cheque in the bank but the proceedings under 138 will start only after you receive the bank receipt stating why the cheque cannot be cleared and then the legal action can be taken and notices are issued accordingly.
