Precautions necessary to be taken for a cheque bounce case

Cheque issued in 2008 without date. Accepting the cheque the drawee wrote ch.no.and amount and cheque given date on a peace of paper without his signature and gave it to me. Amount was paid in cash from my retiral benefits.Now in 2014 by filling the date and bouncing the cheque filed a case in the court. What the precautions i have to take.
You shall be issued a legal notice and you need to reply to it. Appear before the Court when you receive summons and present your bail bonds through your lawyer. Thereafter you shall be given an opportunity to present your case.
