You may give him a legal notice seeking a recovery of the amount given along with interest. The legal notice will be premised on the communication and supporting documents. Since the amount isn't huge, there are good chances of it being returned on issuance of a detailed and aggressive legal notice. If the said amount is not returned to you even after expiry of 15 days from receipt of the legal notice, you may approach the court for recovery of the above-mentioned amount along with interest and a suitable amount for mental agony.
