Q: What can i do if there is discrepancy in date of birth in documents

I have a problem regarding passport. My DOB in birth certificate and Passport is 17/07/1997(which is my original DOB). Apart from this, DOB in all other documents is 17/05/1997. The discrepancy was identified before my SSLC examinations but my school authority was adamant about not changing it back to my correct DOB. As my parents were not well aware about the consequences we just went along with whatever my school administration asked us to do. The office staff asked my mom to write a letter stating that my correct DOB is 17/05/1997 and that we would not ask for any change in the future. We thought we had no other choice and hence my mother wrote that letter. I have finished my graduation now. I hold an expired passport. I have to take passport now.

Advocate K Navaneethakrishnan answered
Dear Customer,Date of birth can be altered only by the Revenue Divisional Officer after conducting an enquiry. You havde toapproach the RDO having jurisdiction of your area. There is a format and you have to fill and hand over the same. If you have any difficulty in approaching the Revenue authorities, please contact the P.A. General of the Collector of yourDistrict. He will identify the authorities.
