Q: Succession Certificate in Delhi for Bank

Good morningI need to apply for succession certificate to access my mother's bank account, which may have only 2 - 3 lakh rupees in it, but it's more of emotional value for me.My mother died in February 2024.Her permanent residence was Karol Bagh DELHI but she died in a retirement village in Rohini DELHI.Which court should be relevant?I have her registered WILL in my name.Do I need succession certificate? Can you help or refer me to a colleague who can help?

Advocate Anish Venkatesh Bindlish answered
Since your mother passed away leaving behind a registered Will in your name, a succession certificate may not be necessary, provided that the bank accepts the Will and does not insist on a succession certificate. A succession certificate is required only when the deceased has died intestate (i.e., without a Will), and you are claiming rights over debts/securities such as bank accounts, FDs, etc. For further queries, feel free to contact me.
