Do I have to pay tax if I am using my taxi to advertise

29-Mar-2023 (In Tax Law)

Hello, I'm from Delhi and I own a few taxis that work in the NCR area. I wanted to know if I'm liable to pay taxes on ads being played on a computer tablet screen installed in my taxi. Section 143 of the DMC acts tells me that yes I do need to pay taxes for advertisements in and on taxis but how is my computer tablet different from ads being played on the radio ? Also do I need to register with the municipal corporation before playing the ads ? And If I indeed have to pay the taxes I'd like to know how much ? Thanks

According to section 143 of DMC act no advertisement should be made within Delhi without the permission of the commissioner of Delhi Municipal Corporation. Delhi Municipal Corporation charges fee for advertisement to be displayed on your taxi. Advertisements in your taxi is a display for a public view where an advertisement on radio is not a display advertisement. That the rates of fee for grant of permission for display of advertisement on the taxi is Rs 2000 per month. In addition to the fee, the advertisement tax leviable u/s 142 of the DMC Act, shall also be payable in advance for each display.
