How can i get the possession of the flat which is in the joint name?

i had bought a flat in a society which is in the name of my father as first owner and me and my mother as co joint owners. my father passed away. so i want to know that does my mother get his share automatically. and how can we get the certificate?
Legal heir certificate shall be made, which can be done by any lawyer or you can go to the registry and get the certification done.
