There is no stamp duty payable on the registration of a Will. However, you may have to pay a nominal registration fee, which varies across states. For instance, in New Delhi, the registration fee is 21, in Uttar Pradesh it is 100, in Karnataka, 200, and 1,000 in Madhya Pradesh. Check the amount based on where you are registering the Will.

Also, it is not mandatory to appoint an executor; however, it does help to have one. The executor of a Will is the person whom you appoint to ensure that the directions in the Will are carried out as per your wishes. An executor can be any person who is not a beneficiary in the Will, or any trusted person such as a family friend, a lawyer or a chartered accountant.

This is my response to you:
1. Firstly you will need to inquire the same from your nearest sub registrar office;
2. You must know that, the prevailing rate is 3 per cent for family members;
3. Consult a local lawyer and take steps.
