Unable to pay a debt immediately. Do I risk any legal issues

21-Dec-2023 (In Recovery Law)
I left India with a pending debt, do I risk anything? I’m from italy, and had to travel to india for a funeral. From italy i ordered a golden statue to a local Jewellers, we agreed on 100g statue for 500 000 INR. I paid in advance a part of the bill (150 000 INR) through wire transfer but i didn’t sign anything at this point. No contracts or bills were signed only whatsapp chat. nWhile in india, 1 day before the funeral the jewelry man announce me that he made the statue twice bigger, without informing me and without my consent (price grown up to 10L). At this point i had no other options, i paid another 6.5L and got the statue.I left india with 2L due balance, but i’m not able to pay it at the moment.
The jeweler, got photocopy of my passport through Airtel. He’s now threatening me of lawsuit saying he raised a credit bill & my passport will be blocked. I didn’t say i will not pay just i’m not able at this time due to the fact that he doubled the price of the statue at the last min.

Dear client You need to immediately send him a legal notice and dispute the excess mount being charged. The jeweller may decide to proceed legally and file a commercial suit here in India. Since you’ve impliedly agreed to the new product (by paying the extra money) you’ll need to dispute this strategically. Will need to have a look at your documents to advise you any further. Feel free to get in touch to discuss further. Warm regards

If they are not listening to you then you can send them a legal notice and in that notice you can write either refund my money back along with compensation or face legal action. And if want to go legal then you can always forward a written complaint to the police station of your area. For more legal assistance I am just a call away.
