You may first send a formal legal notice demanding payment of the outstanding amount within a fixed time period. If the borrower still avoids payment despite repeated assurances, you can initiate a civil recovery suit for recovery of the balance amount along with interest and litigation expenses, subject to proof such as chats, bank transfers, UPI records, witnesses, acknowledgments or any written communication.

First of all rather than going legally you should serve him/her a legal notice and in that notice you can write that either pay my money or face legal action which will be at your own risk. After that if he/she fails to give you a satisfactory reply then you can anytime file a recovery suit in the court to claim your money back along with compensations.

I completely understand how frustrating it is when a simple favor turns into a constant chase. Since he has acknowledged the debt but keeps dodging your requests, a formal legal notice is the right step to show him you are serious. In the notice, we can legally demand the remaining 4,400 along with the legal fees you incur for sending it, which usually pushes people to clear the entire balance immediately to avoid further trouble. You can certainly issue a formal legal notice demanding the outstanding balance of ₹4,400, along with the legal expenses incurred for issuing the notice. Since the remaining amount is relatively small, pursuing a formal civil recovery suit in court may not be economically viable due to the associated litigation time and costs. However, a strongly worded legal notice drafted by an advocate often creates sufficient pressure and acts as a strong deterrent. It demonstrates your serious intent and frequently compels the defaulter to clear their dues to avoid potential legal complications. We can communicate further via email to proceed.
