Need Legal Advice on Dishonored Credit Card Settlement and Harassment

09-Apr-2025 (In Recovery Law)
I had a Standard Chartered Bank credit card, which was written off in 2021. In the same year, I entered into a formal settlement agreement with the bank for ₹23,000. I paid both installments (₹15,000 and ₹8,000) with valid transaction proof. Despite fulfilling the terms: • The settlement was not honored • The account is still shown as active with dues • The bank has continued reporting the account as unpaid to credit bureaus • Collection agents are making repeated calls and sending WhatsApp

Based on the details you've shared, it appears the bank has breached the settlement terms despite your compliance. You may send a legal notice to the bank demanding correction of your CIBIL report and stopping further harassment. If unresolved, you can approach the Banking Ombudsman or file a complaint with RBI and the credit bureau. Additionally, you can seek relief under the Consumer Protection Act for mental harassment and unfair trade practices. Preserve all payment and communication records for evidence.

It's advisable for you to first of all rather than going legally you should serve them a legal notice and in that notice you can write either stop all these harassment or face legal action which will be at your own risk. After that if they fails to give you a satisfactory reply then you can anytime send a complaint regarding your grievances in writing to the police station according to your jurisdiction.
