Loan unpaid, avoiding calls. cheque, promissory note given

Hand loan not paid back, he has given us the promissory note and cheque. However, he is postponing saying that account has no balance. Please advise of how to proceed legally.
hi if he is not repaying the loan amount then you could send the notice to him and if you are having cheques then you could deposit them in bank and if they had returned and bounced then you could file cheque bounce case
