Lawyer harassing for more money

16-May-2025 (In Recovery Law)
I had engaged a lawyer for a quashing petition in Delhi HC. We had verbally agreed to a certain amount. The lawyer pressurised us into paying the amount during the process, which took a year. We ended up paying more than what we had agreed. Now, the lawyer is sending me invoices for double the amount than what was agreed and pressurising us to pay. He’s threatening us with legal action. What can we do? Can there be legal consequences for us? We feel harassed and betrayed.

You can always file a complaint against that Advocate before the Bar Council of Delhi and also file a recovery suit in the civil court according to your jurisdiction to claim your money back along with compensation.

Yes, you can send him a legal notice thereby highlighting the deficient services given by him and moreover, seeking over and above exorbitant amount from you which has no basis as per the mutual understanding arrived at between you two
