Is there any punishment to witness in promissory note

Some people forced me to sign as witness in promissory note issued by my brother if he unable to repay the amount is there will be any issue for me? I don’t know what to do am a student and I don’t have any source of income. The person is threatening me to repay the amount if not he will file a case against me. How can I be on safe side someone please help me

Kindly approach to advocate and he will help you out with this case ....if you are surety then it will be a biggest problem and you are only a witness aand you approaches helps you a lot...we can send a legal notice and then stop threating you
