Illegal recovery of retrospective interest due to bank system error

I am a farmer holding a KCC loan account. After enhancement of loan limit and change of scheme, the applicable interest rate was not updated due to bank’s internal/system error. I regularly paid interest and there was no default from my side. Later, the bank suddenly recovered a large amount of retrospective interest for past years in one lump sum, even charging a higher rate. My complaint was rejected at nodal level. Is such recovery legal and what remedy is available?

Hi, we will have to see why nodal officer rejected your complaint. Only then will we be able to assist you in a better manner. Ideally, they cannot do so. If it turns out that something wrong has happened from bank’s end, we can easily file a case against them. Even otherwise, a consumer case can be filed for deficiency in service.
