How to recover the money given to a friend

I gave 3 Lakhs to my friend ten years back.He gave me a cheque without mentioning date and amount in that as security. He paid very little and he is harassing me without repaying.Whenever I try to call him,he either disconnects calls or says I don't have money. As I am disabled person, I am not in a position to go to his home & fight with him .He took advantage of that.Can i fight legally with that cheque? Can I file a cheating and harassment case on him in the police station?Please advice me

Yes you can give legal notice first to recover the amount. If he is not ready to settle then you can a suit against him for recovery of money along with interest. If you need further query please contact me
