what is the procedure to stop illegal construction on government land

Respected Sir. My neighbour has constructed his house on government land.. Beside my neighbours legal land there was a big government property and little by little my neighbour has done illegal construction on that land and expanded his house there.. i was wondering what action i can take as a law abiding citizen of india to stop this from happening because even now there is some government land left between his house and the road and they are planning to even take over that place! Thank you. Walid Ansari Muslim and my neighbours, they are hindu.
Religion does not matter. Obtain documents to show that the land is government land. File an application before municipality, deputy commissioner, concerned authority. If still no action take move high Court.
