Succession of property by the widow who has only daughter

My father passed away last year and he has one brother. There is a land property on my grandfather's name . Can my mother claim it or I can claim it ? I am a single girl child. And can someone acquire the property behind our back forcefully through my grandfather .
what process should my mother or I follow in order to get our share of land.
