Required legal advice relating to Property partition

My father sold ancestral property in 1998 (In delhi ) and divide this property share among 3 brother (70000 equal share each ) but i was need of some extra money to buy property in delhi, so my father gave me share of one another brother with consent of him . the share of brother which was given me was 50000 rupee . i made oral promise to return back his share when i will have . Before death of my father they was not demanding money of 50000 because my father told me he has given 50000 out of own money so you no need to pay her share 50000 , But after death of my father they started demanding money from me with interest from from date of sale of property i.e date when i get his share . Interest demanded for more than 18 years till date , i refuses to return the same , please advice regarding legal consequences .
if there is no written document wherein your liability to repay arises, or a document showing that you had taken money on a promise to repay, then it may become difficult for your father's brother to claim the money. moreover the fact that he is demanding the money after such a long time also casts doubt on the genuineness of his claim. nay which ways, if he is claiming the money, he will be required to pay court fee also while claiming. so it appears that it would be difficult for your father's brother to claim money from you.

An oral agreement is as equally valid, as a written one. The legality, of an oral agreement, cannot be questioned, if it falls under the ambit of the requirements stated in section 10 of the Indian Contract Act, 1872.
