Rent Dispute (increase in rent despite no earlier agreement)

04-Jan-2023 (In Property Law)
We rented a house 1 year ago in Dwarka Mode area of Delhi, earlier there was no talk about increasing the rent after 1 year, so we assumed there won't be an increase(as is the norm in that area). Now, the landlord is pressurising to increase 10%, or vacate his property. I, myself don't want to live there after seeing the whole drama but my current circumstances prevent me from moving out right now. I want to know what legal options I have, and what's the minimum time in which I am supposed to vacate his property? PS: NO RENT AGREEMENT WAS SIGNED.

I have perused the contents of your query and would advise you to seek a consultancy from a lawyer. You may issue a notice to the landlord through a lawyer enunciating true facts and put ur landlord on notice that you are not obligated to pay the increased rent

Hi, As the document is an unregistered tent agreement , you are on month to month tenancy, you will have to vacate the premises within 15Days of receipt of legal notice sent by the landlord, in case you fail to vacate landlord can file suit for possession Thanks Rainy Sehrawat Advocate
