One day email notice to appear in court from plaintiffs lawyer
18-Jun-2025 (In Property Law)
I have received only one day's notice for a Bombay city civil court hearing by email from my plaintiffs lawyer. I have received no documents from the court itself. I have not received any hard copies or had any communication whatsoever from the court. Also I am housebound and can not go. How can I contact the court to request an urgent adjournment?
you have the right to fair notice and adequate time to prepare for any court hearing. If you have received only a one-day notice via email from the plaintiff’s lawyer and no official intimation or summons from the Bombay City Civil Court, you can immediately seek an adjournment.
Since you are housebound and unable to attend physically, I recommend the following steps:
Draft a letter or email addressed to the Registrar or concerned Court Clerk explaining your situation — late notice, lack of official court communication, and medical or physical limitations preventing attendance.
Attach supporting documents — your medical records (if applicable), a copy of the notice received, and your ID proof.
Send the request via email or fax to the court's official contact (available on the Bombay City Civil Court website), and also through speed post if possible.
Simultaneously, I will appear or have a proxy appear on the next date to place the request for adjournment before the judge formally.
This ensures your right to be heard is protected and prevents any ex-parte action.
