Is it illegal to keep pots/plants in own window balcony

1) Can housing society form bye-laws to disallow keeping plant pots in own apartment window/balcony in a residential complex ?
2) we have kept trays to ensure no water/soil run-off spoiling the paint; how do I address this issue as the society has given us notice stating keeping plants will be punishable
Keeping plants is not a punishable offence and is your society cannot punish you for the act. If you ensure that the water does not deep through the walls then you have nothing to worry about. If your society has its bye laws it cannot mean that you are not allowed to cater to plants which you may do so

Well, Whatever Law Society is making for its Members through Bye Laws. Such Bye Laws should not violate Indian Constitution and Laws of India if such Society is in India, if they are violating such laws, then such Bye Laws are Illegal. After going through your query, I think, the Byelaw made by the Society is Illegal and Illogical.

Keeping plant in at your window and balcony is not illegal unless it makes trouble for the others. Ask your society reason for the same. Get written statement of society pertaining to reason for not keeping pots in balcony.
