42 years old property no documents landlord wants eviction

Dear Team, My father had purchase a land in 1972 but today I have no purchasing documents.From 1972 to Jan'2017 there is no communication between us . In 1996 there was flood in my city , in this flood all documents are destroyed. but owner has a old registry paper . I pay electricity Bill, Water Bill & Property Tax Since 1972 . I wrote a letter to MCD about this but they don't provide any information about this and they told that he (Old Owner) is owner of that land. old owner suite a case against me kindly suggest me what i do.
If you have all these documents then its suficient for you to prove your possession and you can also file suit for permanent injuction against the owner so he cant get vacant property from you and contact a good lawyer
