Road Accident 3 months ago.. No FIR yet. Now asking for 5-6 lakhs comp

A road accident involving my car occurred in Delhi about 3 months ago, causing injuries to a motorcyclist. No FIR has been registered till date. The injured person initially gave a written statement declining an FIR but is now seeking ₹5–6 lakh privately. I have valid third-party insurance. Can the claim now proceed through insurance? Is an FIR mandatory or will a DD/GD suffice? What is my best legal option? Settlement out of court?
Since your vehicle was covered by a valid third-party insurance policy on the date of the accident, immediately inform your insurer (if not already done) and cooperate with any investigation. Avoid making any private payment of ₹5–6 lakh without a properly drafted written settlement, as such payment may not discharge future claims and may prejudice your legal position.
If the injured person is willing to settle, the settlement should preferably be recorded before the MACT or through a legally documented compromise to ensure finality. If no settlement is reached and criminal proceedings are initiated later, seek anticipatory/legal representation promptly and preserve all documents relating to the accident.
