Govt extends deadline to link PAN with Aadhaar till December 2019

The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has extended the deadline to link Permanent Account Number (PAN) with Aadhaar till December 31st, 2019 by an order on Saturday, 21st September 2019. The earlier deadline to link PAN with Aadhaar was 30th September 2019. The government has made this extension for the seventh time for the individuals to link their PAN with Aadhaar. The policy-making body for the Income-Tax Department stated that a notification was issued on Friday in this connection extending the date from September 30, 2019, to December 31, 2019. The Aadhaar scheme, which is a flagship of the central government, was declared constitutionally valid by the Supreme Court in September last year which also held that the biometric ID would remain compulsory for the filing of IT returns and for the allotment of PAN. The Income Tax Act also states under section 139 AA (2) that every individual eligible to obtain Aadhaar, and having a PAN as on July 1, 2017, must intimate his or her Aadhaar details to the tax authorities. Aadhaar is a unique identification issued to a resident of India by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), whereas, the 10 digits alphanumeric PAN number is allotted by the IT department to an individual, entity or firm. An Individual can link his/her Aadhar with PAN online through the following procedure:

  1. Log on to Income Tax e-Filing website to link Aadhar with PAN.

  2. Select the `LINK AADHAAR` option below Quick links.

  3. Enter your PAN and Aadhaar number in the form.

  4. Enter your name as mentioned in your Aadhaar card.

  5. In case, only Year of Birth is mentioned in your Aadhar, You need to tick the square.

  6. Enter the Captcha code given in the below image.

  7. Click on `LINK AADHAAR` option.

  8. A pop-up message will appear that your Aadhaar-PAN card linking is successfully done
