Owner withholding security deposit and asking for a month's rent

26-Jul-2026 (In Landlord/Tenant Law)
We're a couple who were found living in a rented apartment by the owner. There was deception on my side, as I had mentioned it was a female friend, and I came clean at the last moment. I stuck to the story that my partner only visits sometimes, and I never sublet it to him. Here is the entire story: https://www.reddit.com/r/LegalAdviceIndia/comments/1v5mugw/couple_found_living_together_in_ren Now, the owner is asking to keep 55k deposit and for next month's rent despite evicting us this month

If the landlord has asked you to vacate immediately, they generally cannot demand both eviction and rent for a future period unless your agreement specifically permits it. They also cannot arbitrarily forfeit the ₹55,000 security deposit without a valid contractual or legal basis. Review your rent agreement, keep all chats and payment records, and if the landlord refuses to return the deposit without justification, you can send a legal notice and consider approaching the appropriate civil or consumer forum.
