Absconded from work on probation of 2 months. asking me to pay them

19-Jun-2025 (In Labour & Service Law)
Hi, I was on a 2-month probation in a pvt company and left without serving the last 7 days of notice. I received a formal email accusing me of absconding and threatening legal action to recover notice pay. I didn’t sign any bond, cause damage, or take company property. I’m fine with losing salary or full & final. Can they actually sue me for this? What happens if I ignore legal notices? What's the worst that can happen here? the 7 days amnt is around 10k? will they file a lawsuit or sue me ?

No, generally they can't hold you liable to pay them back especially if you're on probation. Additionally, that you mention that you didn't sign any bond or contract and hence, you are generally safe. However, it'd be better if I can read the e-mail through and know the allegations and consequences stated in order to help you better.

Well, there are very less chances that the Company may sue you in order to recover notice period arrears of mere Rs 10,000 of 7 Days! However, to set an example in their corporate culture for other employees, they may sue you!
