Srilankan refugee married to Indian citizen
23-Feb-2023 (In Immigration Law)
I am a Srilankan refugee married to Indian girl. I came to India with valid passport and tourist visa in 1996. Now registered as a refugee with FRRO and renewing RC/RP every 6 months. I have married an Indian girl In 2020. Is there any possibility for me to apply for Indian citizenship.? Also will the child born to us be affected due to my refugee status.?
Dear Client,
Received your query on the refugee should reside atleast 5 years to claim citizenship as the statutory act, and as per your concern registered in FRRO you cannot claim the right of becoming an Indian citizen for now neither from approaching court, waiting for the period 5 years is mandatory as from the date of registered in FRRO.
Thanks.
