Recieving GST on employment visa in India

Is GST registration for foreigner on employment visa legal per visa regulations? The income has crossed 20lakh and the company has requested applying for GST. The contract between employer and employee is an exclusive representation agreement with mentioned gross base salary in it.
GST is tax law issue, visa is immigration issue. If genuine employment salary, GST usually not on employee-employer relation. If independent consultancy/representation, GST may apply. Review contract urgently.
