Afghan woman needs humanitarian visa & protection in India advice
10-Feb-2026 (In Immigration Law)
I am an Indian citizen in Maharashtra helping an Afghan woman in Afghanistan. She faces domestic violence from her husband who refuses divorce and fears harm/persecution under Taliban rule. She has a young daughter at risk. She wants to come to India alone or with child on humanitarian (e-Emergency X-Misc) or medical visa for safety. I can sponsor/host in Maharashtra.
Please advise:
Fastest/safest visa category?
Required documents from Afghanistan?
Steps after arrival FRRO, UNHCR registration...
Hi. The Afghan national will first need to apply for an Indian visa through the New Afghan Portal. While an individual cannot “sponsor” a visa in the formal sense, you can support the application by issuing an invitation letter and an undertaking, along with address and financial support documents, as applicable.
We can take up the remaining documentation and the fact-specific inputs in a call or meeting. Please share your preferred slots and mode (call or in-person), and I will align accordingly.
As a matter of sequencing, we should secure an Entry Visa first. After she arrives in India, she must complete FRRO/FRO registration within the stipulated timeline, and thereafter we can evaluate and, if eligible, move an application for a Stay Visa/Residential Permit to regularise longer-term stay.
