Parents are forcing me to marry according to their own choice

13-Jan-2024 (In Family Law)
Hi, I am a 32 years old hindu girl. I am self-employed. According to family, I am not financially independent enough and I won't be able to live alone. So I should get married to a man of their choice. I am suffering for their narrow-minded and conservative attitude towards me and every aspect of my life from what I should eat to whom I should like. My mother makes my and everybody's lives a living hell around her. I also can't talk to my father in peace because of her. What should I do?

As per the Constitution of India, you have the right to make choices - from the right to eat to the right of choosing a partner. While I understand that morality doesn't support going against the mother. But eventually it is you who has to live with your partner. Find someone. Get married. Eventually you'll move out.

legally it is not the case wherein you should involve any legal aspect or a lawyer but have a consultation with a counselor so that she/he can provide you a solution. the problem can be tackled legally only if there is a legal aptitude involved here

I remember a story similar to yours in which I as an advocate fought with her Daddy tooth and nail in Model Town PS Delhi wherein father of the girl has lodged FIR against boyfriend of girl for abduction. women still suffer due to patriarchal attitude of their father, brother and even husband's. I would suggest you to display fortitude and have courage that would help you in sailing against the tide of torture. First you should be ready for yourself then law in the form of writ petition in High court and through other means would aid you. To cut the long story that girl name is Likhita and She is pursuing MBA right now in London and now her father Appa Rao from Telangana is friends with me and moreover she is with her boyfriend. So don't worry , have hope.
