20-Aug-2023 (In Family Law)
Hi,nI am a Canadian citizen (used to be an Indian citizen ) currently residing in Canada. I am getting married to a guy who is a Permanent resident of Canada but still an Indian citizen. We are planning to get married in India but are confused in terms of the marriage registration. Would need your advice on whether to register the marriage in Canada itself or we can do that in India as well. If India, what would be the right way to go about it? We both are HindunThank you!

To register the marriage , you need to be have ID proof such as Aadhar card and voter card. Either of the party have an address of that city and state where you want to register the marriage . Since you are a Canadian citizen so you need NOC from Canada Embassy which is required for your spouse to apply for citizenship. You have to disclose ur Canada citizenship as marriage certificate In india has address of both the parties. In case you want to do marriage registration in Delhi I have been dealing with same . What you will be needing is the address proof for your residence in India. For that purpose you can also show any rent agreement because your stay in India is mandatory for at least 30 days to be eligible for the registration of Marriage. For more legal assistance I am just a call away.
