NRI Marriage registration in India

25-May-2025 (In Family Law)
I am an NRI and my fiance is in India. We want to register our marriage under the Special Marriage Act. As a part of the process do I need to provide any additional documents for my NRI status? Also the WB marriage portal has the options for only Indian/OCI , and the registrar didn't ask for any additional documents like passport and visa. Just wanted to confirm that this is fine and legally okay.

your marriage registration under the Special Marriage Act with your Indian fiancee, even as an NRI, can be done without needing to specifically provide documents related to your NRI status beyond what's generally required. In summary, your marriage registration under the Special Marriage Act in West Bengal should be smooth and legally sound, even as an NRI, as long as you provide the required documents for identity, age, and address, and fulfill the 30-day notice requirement

Yes, you can marry under the Special Marriage Act. As an NRI, passport, visa, and address proof abroad may be needed. If the registrar hasn't asked now, keep these ready in case of future verification or legal formality. please contact me for detailed information.
