You can lodge a complaint with the Police to register a FIR. Police will get your mom examined by a doctor whose report will be important to ascertain the injury. Statement of you and your mom is sufficient if the circumstance is such that presence of any other witness was not possible.

First of all you immediately lodge fit in the police station under which your locality falls.In case any visible injury mark is there this should be recorded by doctor whom you have consulted While writing FIR care be taken to clearly intimate all the facts .

You can file an FIR before the Police or file a Complaint Petition in the Court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM).
If you file an FIR, it will be in the hands of the Police to conduct a proper investigation by taking your statement and by doing other necessary investigation. However, in the event of a Complaint Petition, you will have some control over the proceeding before the Court, in as much as you can apprise the Court about the status and progress of investigation if the Court orders an investigation by the Police.
