my SUR NAME IN my daughter's PASSPORT and my sur name in my passpport
12-Feb-2025 (In Family Law)
My daughter is 20 yrs old. In her passport my name is P DURGA BHAVANI (P is my in-law's sur name). My all govt id proofs including my passport contains my name as Y DURGA BHAVANI (Y is my father's sur name before my marraige).
Will there be any problem if I want to travel with my daughter to abroad as a dependent in future ??
Since your name in your daughter's passport (P. Durga Bhavani) does not match your name in your own passport and other ID proofs (Y. Durga Bhavani), it may create issues when applying for a visa or dependent sponsorship abroad. Immigration officers may ask for proof of name variation to confirm the relationship.
How to Avoid Future Problems?
Option 1: Apply for a Name Correction in Your Daughter’s Passport
If possible, apply for a passport reissue for your daughter, updating your name as per your passport.
This process requires:
Your passport as proof of correct name.
Birth certificate or 10th-grade certificate of your daughter to verify the parent’s name.
Option 2: Provide Legal Name Variation Proof
If you cannot change the name in her passport, keep the following documents ready:
Gazette Notification – Publish an official name change notification in the Government Gazette stating that both names belong to the same person.
Affidavit for Name Declaration – Prepare an affidavit stating that P. Durga Bhavani and Y. Durga Bhavani are the same person.
Marriage Certificate – If your marriage certificate has both surnames, it can help prove the change.
One and the Same Person Certificate – Some local authorities issue this certificate confirming both names belong to you.
Option 3: Use an Additional Document for Visa Processing
While applying for a dependent visa, include all proofs (affidavit, marriage certificate, birth certificate) to support your name variation.
Best Solution
If you have time, apply for a correction in your daughter’s passport to match your name in official records.
If changing the passport is difficult, prepare an affidavit, Gazette notification, and supporting documents.
Would you like help in drafting an affidavit or Gazette notification for your name correction?
