My mother us threatens to implicate me in false case( v r hindus)

Hi,
My husband and mother in law are co-owners in the flat where 4 of us live (MIL,FIL, My husb & I). To make flat on hr name fully she makes life of me & my husb hell ! MIL committed Physical, Verbal and Mental torture .
Now fearing that I will go to Police/court against her , she blatantly started lying that I am a liar & a threat to her life so she needs protection against me. I went to Police after this, but instead of FIR they just wrote an "NC" . she says that she going to implicate me in false case so I go jail. M scared cos :-a) her husband is a lawyer b) she hs done drill of taking protection etc. earlier too against her husband (earlier estranged)
1. What is the best advice/soln in above? Cn my MIL really frame me in a false case?
2.What is NC? Is it of some use as a proof?
3. Why did police not do FIR here
4. Is thr a Womencell is it bettr thn Police/Court?
5.Cn I get a free lawyer frm court?
6.Whos a Protection offcr & hw can i get one to protect me frm hr false claim
