Medico legal case admission of my Sister-in-law in Sassoon Hospital

26-Sep-2024 (In Family Law)
I admitted my Sister in law aged 54 in Sassoon hospital in a very sick condition unable to walk. I wont be able to take care of the nursing cost. She was living separately and even my brother was not living with her. My brother was arrested in a case in 2022, so nobody to support her. I am a single man, need to take care of my ageing parents. can the police arrest me? will the hospital arrange for a facility to take care of her?

Why do you think so, that, the Police will arrest you. Have you committed any Offence with your Brother? If you have not committed any Cognizable and Non Bailable Offence, then, you not need to worry at all.

I’m sorry to hear about your sister-in-law’s situation. You generally cannot be arrested just for being unable to take care of her or for her medical expenses. However, if there are specific legal obligations regarding her care or if any accusations are made against you related to neglect, those circumstances might differ. It’s essential to clarify any legal responsibilities you might have, especially if you are named as a guardian or if there are any court orders. Sassoon Hospital may provide medical care, but they typically do not offer long-term nursing care or facilities for patients who need ongoing support after discharge. You should speak with the hospital social worker or discharge planner. They can help you explore options for long-term care, rehabilitation facilities, or home health services, including financial assistance programs or charities that may assist in covering nursing costs. If possible, reach out to other family members, friends, or local community resources that might be able to help you manage this situation. Local charities or non-profits may also provide assistance or guidance for caregiving and financial support. It’s essential to address these issues as soon as possible to ensure your sister-in-law receives the care she needs.
