Legally, two consenting adults can enter into a valid contract of marriage. However, you have to take certain facts into practical consideration before taking a final decision in the matter: 1. you both are still students, and are yet to settle in your respective lives; and 2. your friend's family's objection may lead to unpleasant situations later on, if you go against their wishes. In the circumstances, it is better for both of you to finish your studies first, get employed, convince both sides and then enter into wedlock.

At the age of 20 years, you cant marry a girl. You have to wait some more time till you attain 21 years to marry your girl. Otherwise, your marriage will not be a legally permitted one. Plan accordingly.
